On October 20, 2021 Stellar’s son, Standing Ovation (out of VPrSt Ricola DTA) was the first pony/small horse stallion of any breed to attend and successfully complete the North American Stallion Sport Test in its new format at Hilltop Farm! Stanley did a fantastic job with wonderful comments from attendees and his riders, and fulfilled his performance requirements to be approved and lifetime licensed for breeding with both Westfalen and Weser Ems! Congratulations to owner Marcy Segel and rider Carlolyn Jette!

And, we are so excited to announce that Stellar made history for the Haflinger breed once again by achieving his fifth and final star in the AWSSR (American Warmblood Society & Sporthorse Registry) Five-Star Recognition Program! Out of 250+ approved AWSSR stallions, only a few have four stars, and Stellar is the first to have attained all five stars! Stellar first reached this achievement in 2018, and as of the end of 2023 he is still the only stallion to have achieved this accomplishment.

Per the AWSSR website: The 5 Star program documents outstanding achievements of horses in both athletic and reproductive areas.
First star=superior inspection score of 75% or better (sporthorse/Warmblood registry, not Haflinger breed registry)
Second star=superior performance in the upper levels of sport: FEI, dressage, show jumping, eventing (includes stallion testing)
Third Star=3-5 offspring inspection scores 75% or higher (Warmblood/sporthorse inspection)
Fourth Star=placing in a National Championship
Fifth Star=offspring placing in a National Championship

Thank you Roxy (Ressonance of New Horizons owned by Shelby Blades in Alaska) and Stanley for helping “dad” attain his final star and hit another landmark!

This exceptional young stallion has made history time and again for the Haflinger breed in the sport horse world! In December 2013 at only five years of age, Stellar TVR became the first Haflinger stallion in North American history to ever attend the North American Stallion Testing. Not only did Stellar successfully pass the test, he did so with the excellent overall score of 7.98 and earned the title of Reserve Champion! His interior scores ranged from 8 to a perfect 10, and he received 8s from the Training Director, Harald Hoffman, in Rideability, Canter, Free Jumping, Stadium Jumping and Cross Country. (Read below for more details.) Stellar is also the first Haflinger stallion in North American history to be lifetime licensed and approved for breeding through the German registries RPSI and Weser Ems into their highest stud books, and through the American Warmblood Society. He has produced 100% Premium foals with RPSI, numerous Premium mares and foals and site and year-end Inspection Champions with Westfalen, and Premium foals with Weser Ems, as well as Silver and a Gold classified mare with AHR.

Stellar is the 2017 National Dressage Pony Cup DSHB overall Reserve Grand Champion, Reserve Champion Mature Horse, and Champion Stallion. Under saddle Stellar won first place numerous times through first level in 2017 at recognized USDF shows in both open and pony divisions before being retired for breeding so that we could focus on promoting his offspring.

Stellar is inspected and Approved for Breeding by the American Haflinger Registry, and is lifetime licensed and fully approved for breeding with Weser Ems Stud Book I (German Oldenburg Verband pony division), RPSI Stud Book I, Westfalen NA, and the American Warmblood Society and Sporthorse Registry. His foals are eligible for registration with all of the above registries.

Standing @14.3H, Stellar is a true gentleman with an exceptional temperament and impeccable character. A quick learner, Stellar is very intelligent and very willing and eager to please. He is one of the very few Haflinger stallions who has gone on to compete under saddle showing and winning/placing at the top of his classes in performance in open competition, after winning in-hand and under saddle in sport horse disciplines at both breed shows and open shows against all breeds. Stellar is a tall, sport-horse type stallion, combining substance with a modern build. His rich, vibrant metallic copper chestnut color and bright white mane and tail are absolutely stunning! This athletic stallion is a very correct and outstanding mover, with a powerful, uphill, ground-covering stride, wonderful freedom of shoulder, great reach from behind and articulation of joints, and a large overtrack at the walk and trot. He possesses excellent conformation with a strong, well-muscled back, strong loin connection, and a fantastic hip/hindquarter seldom seen in this breed. At sport horse and Warmblood inspections Stellar consistently receives compliments and high marks on his excellent quality of gaits, which are correct, pure and rhythmic, his well-balanced conformation and his outstanding temperament and character.

Stellar has proven himself to be an outstanding sire, consistently passing on his qualities to his offspring out of a variety of mares, and has been an excellent choice for breeders looking to improve the hindquarter, strengthen the loin and back of a longer-backed mare, add more athleticism, and provide more powerful movement from behind. He has also been an excellent stallion for breeders looking to add a little more substance to a very refined mare, and to improve the temperament of a hotter mare.

This outstanding high SILVER classified Austrian import has a pedigree full of GOLD rated horses, ELITE bloodlines, Keuring Champions, and EUROPEAN and WORLD CHAMPIONS, which consists of some of the strongest mare and stallion lines in the Haflinger breed! Stellar is one of the only ST-line stallions with modern bloodlines in the United States, and is currently the only son of Straden available in North America. This amazing young stallion was imported as a foal at his dam’s side by Gail Baum of Twin View Ranch and was bred by one of Austria’s most well-respected and successful breeders, Erick Scheiber, from Obergurgl, Austria.

If you are looking for offspring from a proven sport horse stallion with exceptional character, we hope that you will consider Stellar for your future riding or breeding prospect. While we are no longer breeding outside mares, we are still breeding our mares and have Stellar offspring for sale. We may know of other Stellar offspring for sale by our friends and clients as well. Please feel free to contact us via e-mail at newhorizonshaflingers@gmail.com or by phone (b) 517 410 8000 for more information on this amazing young stallion and his offspring.

We are very proud of “Rock Star” as he is affectionately known, but don’t take just our word for it. Below are comments from the professionals who have worked with Stellar thus far:

I have been lucky enough to start Stellar on his Dressage journey. Not a huge fan of the breed before Stellar, I have to admit that he has certainly changed my mind in the short time I have had him so far. He shows a clear ability to do Dressage to the upper levels, with a strong hind leg and wonderful gaits. His work ethic is wonderful and I personally cannot say enough about his sweet, loving attitude. I look forward to our journey together through the levels of Dressage.
– Tracy Rowe McEwan, FEI Dressage Trainer/owner, Rowe Stables

Stellar spent some time on my farm as a yearling. What a lovely disposition and GORGEOUS mover!
– Rachel King, owner/operator, Deer Haven Farm, Lexington, Kentucky

We are very fortunate to be given the privilege of representing Haflinger stallion Stellar TVR for the 2013 breeding season. We have been excited about this fine young stallion from the moment we met him in late 2010. He encompasses the very term “the sum of the parts equal the whole”, as he has incredible conformation, balanced forward movement and a temperament equal to that of a trusted and loved lap dog. His soft gentle eye immediately captivates you and his elegant expressive face is the perfect icing on the cake. We have so enjoyed working with this intelligent stallion, as he is very quick and eager to learn. Very willing and trusting. It would take no longer than a few moments for any true horseman to recognize the high quality of this stallion. Surely the future promises to be bright and exciting for this stallion as he makes his debut in performance and as his foals begin their appearances within the show world.
– Donna Mulinski, owner/operator, Spectrum Horse Service/Spectrum Equine Reproduction Center, Elsie, Michigan

Stellar TVR is one of the most affable equine characters that I have had the pleasure of working with in a long time. He came to us for under saddle training, as a 3 yr old stud colt in the middle of his first breeding season and maintained a levelheaded work ethic. We found this young stallion to be both intelligent and accommodating during his training rides and at all show venues when he came out with us. At Dressage at Devon, Bruce and Staci Griffin were totally enamored with his gentlemanly disposition. We here at Dreamfield Manor Farm are looking forward to meeting his first foal crop and feel sure that he will pass on his generous and kind personality. Thank you to New Horizons Haflingers for allowing us to work with such a sweetheart of a young stallion.
– Jennie Deephouse, head trainer/owner/operator, Dreamfield Manor Farm, Coopersburg, Pennsylvania

Sire, Straden (Standschutz x Mory-an Andrit mare) is the top ST-line breeding stallion in Austria, with several licensed sons standing in Austria and several sons and daughters who are World Champions! Straden won first place in his age group at his yearling stallion inspection and was classified 1a at the 2010 and 2005 World Shows. At the 2010 World Show two of Straden’s daughters classified 1a won their classes, and the Straden son, Stilton, also classified 1a, placed 2nd in his class and was named the Reserve World Champion Junior Stallion!

Mory is by Andrit, one of the top producing broodmare sires in Austrian history.

Dam, Chione, received a 77 on her inspection in Austria as a three-year-old, with 8s in type, movement, head and neck. In 2010 Chione won the six-year-old mare division and the overall mare division championships with a score of 76.2% at a USDF Sport Horse Breed Show in California.

Dam’s dam, Clari (Mordskerl x Clarissa), is a GOLD rated mare in Austria who received a 9 in movement at her inspection.

Damsire, Altess (Amadeus x Dorlis), was winner of the 2000 Stallion Inspection in Austria and World Champion three-year-old at the 2000 World Show. Altess is a full brother to the three-time World Champion and European Champion stallion, Abendstern (2010, 2005, 2000).

Grandsire sire, Amadeus, was a world champion and European Champion and the highest GOLD classified Haflinger in the world at 85 points, and is by Afghan II, the first World Champion Stallion. Both Amadeus and Afghan II have multiple winnings with their offspring in stallion collection classes at past world shows.

Stellar’s granddam, Dorlis, won her class at the 2005 World Show, won Reserve Champion in her mare class at the 2000 World Show, and won the mare offspring collection in the young stock collection of mares at both the 2005 and 2000 World Shows. She is the dam of the 2000 World Champion mare and the 1998 European Champion mare and Elite Mare Show Champion, Dorata, and the 2003 European Champion mare and World Champion mare Dematteo, both full sisters to Altess and three-time World Champion Abendstern.

In 2011 Stellar made his show debut on-the-line at the age of three, winning RESERVE CHAMPION colt/gelding (open/ALL breeds) at his first USDF DSHB rated show, at Buck’s County Horse Park in Pennsylvania, and first place three-year-old c/g (open), qualifying him for the Great American/USDF Breeders’ Championship East Coast Series Final in the C/G Championship at the prestigious Dressage at Devon! At his second show, the Stone Tavern II USDF DSHB show(NJ), Stellar was GRAND CHAMPION Haflinger in the IBC! Comments from USDF Judge Carter Bass regarding Stellar’s walk include “nice activity and energy with good swing and use of topline.” At Dressage at Devon Stellar ribboned against the warmbloods in two very large classes, including the C/G Championship class, and was third place in the Haflinger IBC, where he received the excellent score of 8 on his walk from international judge Dr. Ludwig Christmann of the Hanovarian Verband in Germany. Stellar was the USDF DSHB NATIONAL CHAMPION and RANKED FIRST IN THE NATION (Haflinger three-year-old c/g)in the 2011 USDF All-Breeds Dressage Sport Horse Breeding Awards program, and 16th in the nation out of ALL three-year-old colts/geldings ALL BREEDS of horses! Stellar’s median scores were higher in both the open division as well as the IBC division than ALL other Haflingers–all sexes/all ages–that participated in and qualified for the 2011 All-Breeds DSHB program!

Stellar received scores up to 72.4% in the open classes, with a median score of 71.125%, and scored up to 74.4% in the Haflinger IBC classes, with a median score of 70.5%! Stellar’s highest scores were received in very competitive classes at Dressage at Devon in both the open and IBC classes. Stellar was also the highest inspected stallion on the 2011 AHR U.S inspection tour, with a score of 77 points, including 9 on head and 8s on type, overall movement, hindquarter, midsection and front legs.

In 2012 Stellar made history by paving the way for North American Haflinger sport horses in several German sport horse/sport pony performance registries. In August 2012 we presented Stellar at the RPSI inspections in Michigan, where he became the first Haflinger stallion in North American approved for breeding through RPSI, the North American division of the Pferdezuchtverband Rheinland-Pfalz-Saar in Germany, into Stud Book I, the top Stud Book in Germany!

In July 2012 we presented Stellar at the Weser Ems (the sport pony and small horse division of the German Oldenburg Verband) inspection in Michigan, where he became the first Haflinger stallion in North America approved for breeding by Weser Ems, entered into Stud Book I. Weser-Ems, the North American division of Pferdestammbuch Weser-Ems e.V. in Germany, follows very strict standards in breeding top ponies and small horses for sport. Stellar received excellent scores of 8s in breed and sex type, temperament, and correctness of gaits. Some comments from the W-E inspector (OHBS GOV Director, Holly Simensen) include: “His correctness of gaits are excellent, he is very well-balanced, and has an outstanding temperament! I think he is just delightful!”

Stellar is also approved for breeding through the American Warmblood Society (AWS), and has been awarded two of five stars in their Five-Star Program. Stellar also won the Bronze Medal over Warmbloods in 2012 as the third highest scoring horse at the AWS inspections in Michigan. To our knowledge, Stellar is currently the highest scoring Haflinger stallion inspected by the American Warmblood Society, and the only one approved for breeding. In 2010 we presented Stellar to AWS as a two-year-old. Stellar’s score ranked him fourth in the nation out of all breeds in the sport pony division of the AWS National Year-End Inspection Awards Program! The AWS Director commented on his balanced conformation, wonderful temperament, rhythmic stride and purity of gaits.

Stellar was started under saddle by Jennie Deephouse at Dreamfield Manor Farm (Pennsylvania), who praised him for his intelligence and excellent character and temperament. Dreamfield Manor Farm did an incredible job preparing Stellar for the North American Stallion Testing in 2013. Stellar made his debut under saddle in September 2013 at the BCHP School Horse Trials. After only a few weeks jumping under saddle, he placed third out of twelve–his first time ever over a cross country course!–and was within 1% of the first and second place horses on his dressage score! Stellar demonstrated great presence and power under saddle, and was a perfect gentleman throughout the day. A month later Stellar was shown at the KILE Haflinger Breed Show, winning first place in his class and Grand Champion stallion/gelding! Stellar also won one of his under saddle classes and placed second in the other two classes he entered! This was only his second show under saddle, and his first time shown in group classes!

In 2013 Stellar made history once again in the sport horse world by becoming the first Haflinger in North American to ever attend the North American Stallion Testing! Stellar’s final scores were as follows: Interior-8.38, Walk-7.0, Trot-7.25, Canter-7.75, Rideability-7.75, Jumping (free jumping and stadium jumping)-7.75, and cross country jumping-7.88, for an overall score of 7.98! Stellar was awarded his lifetime license with Weser Ems and RPSI, and is entered into the German Sport Horse database, making him fully approved for breeding in Germany as well as the U.S. His U.S. born foals are eligible for German life numbers and German passports, just like foals born in Germany. We are extremely grateful to Jennie and Chelsea Deephouse of Dreamfield Manor Farm in Pennsylvania for the amazing job they did in preparing Stellar for the stallion testing.
Since we extended his 2014 breeding season through the summer to meet his outside breeding obligations, Stellar was not shown in 2014. He entered full-time training with FEI trainer Tracy Rowe of Rowe Dressage Stables in Michigan in 2015 and they are proving to be an amazing team, with excellent scores and wins their first season out in 2016 at rated dressage shows!

Stellar TVR made his dressage debut at rated shows in 2016 with trainer Tracy Rowe, and was a great success! Since he has never been shown at a dressage show, Stellar debuted at training level his first two times out, then spent the rest of his summer advancing his training at home. Stellar brought home two blue ribbons his first weekend out, four all-breeds qualifying scores, and just missed qualifying for regionals at training level by 1%! His top two test at Dressage Waterloo I & II were a 67+% (Training level test 3) and 73% (Training level test 2), where he received a 7.5 for gaits and impulsion, and several 8s, an 8.5 and a 9 for breakdown movement scores!

Stellar made his debut at first level at recognized dressage shows in 2017 with scores to 70%. His second show was the very prestigious and competitive National Dressage Pony Cup in July, where Stellar earned respectable scores to 65%, was second place in his ride on Sunday for the Kentucky Dressage Association show, and won NDPC DSHB overall Reserve Grand Champion!

In May 2017 Stellar achieved great success at his first level debut at recognized shows at the ODS Down Centerline I & II shows in Ohio, winning all six of his classes with scores to 70%, and receiving his first qualifying score for regionals!

Sire of Westfalen provisionally approved stallion Standing Ovation New Horizons, AHR Gold Classified mare Rafinja of New Horizons, and the Westfalen NA Premium and Site Inspection Champion mares Rafinja and Rock My World New Horizons!!

Stellar’s first foals arrived in 2012 and we could not be more pleased! They have inherited their sire’s excellent conformation, outstanding hindquarters, wonderful temperament and powerful movement. In 2015, Stellar produced two RPSI Gold Premium foals (8.2, 8.1) including the Site Inspection Champion foal (out of nine foals!), one Silver Premium foal (7.8), and a mare approved for breeding into Mare Book I! His 2014 foal crop out of different mares proved to be just as outstanding, with his first foal ever presented to RPSI received a Gold Premium with an overall score of 8.1, and Site Inspection Champion Filly!

In 2014 Stellar sired a colt for one of our clients out of Hanovarian mare by the great Warmblood sire, ES Donovan. The colt was everything the owner hoped for for her future performance horse! Stellar’s foals are in high demand with amateur and professional dressage riders looking for the perfect combination of temperament, character, conformation and movement. His 2015, 2016 and 2017 foals sold inutero very early (the 2017 foals sold in 2015!). Stellar is available to a very limited number of approved outside mares of all breeds each season via A.I. only (both on the farm A.I. and excellent quality transported semen available). Fresh, cooled shipped, and frozen semen available. Semen is handled through Spectrum Horse Service/Spectrum Equine Reproduction Center and Michigan State University Veterinary Hospital, and is analyzed before processing and shipping. Mare owners receive a complete semen analysis with each shipment. SHS is a state-of-the-art equine reproduction facility located in Elsie, Michigan, and a USDA/APHIS approved center for shipping to the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, and some countries in South America, and are obtaining their approval to ship to New Zealand and Australia in 2016. They can easily ship fresh or frozen semen to Canada. While we have had several requests to ship semen to Australia and New Zealand, we are sorry that we are not able to take Stellar out of training to quarantine him at this time, but we would be happy to work with clients on purchasing a foal from us to export. We have a foal heading to Australia sometime in the next few years (once the foal is born it will spend a year or two being show here before export), and would be happy to facilitate the shipping process and work with experienced haulers we know to get the best price for our clients to transport horses to the west coast. Live foal guarantee and discounts available. Additional breeder’s incentive include cash back to any Stellar offspring that wins their class at the National Show and National Futurity. Discounted return breeding on any Stellar foal who wins their SIP class. Stellar is enrolled in the Stallion Incentive Program and his foals are SIP eligible. Stellar is also enrolled in the Haflinger Breeder’s Co-op, which offers very large payouts to yearlings by participating stallions, starting in 2015 at the AHR Futurity. Stellar’s foals are eligible for registration with the Weser-Ems Breeder’s Society, RPSI and the American Warmblood Society.

This incredible stallion continues to bless us, not only with his own accolades, but with the exceptional offspring he is consistently siring for us and our clients! In September 2019 his son, Standing Ovation New Horizons (out of the Premium mare, Ricola DTA) was inspected and approved for breeding pending performance results by Westfalen NA at their Maine inspection, his daughter, Ressonance of New Horizons (out of R Noble Rose APF) who resides in Alaska was the Reserve Champion at first level for the USDF All-Breeds Awards Program, and a colt foal in Florida bred by one of our clients was awarded Premium with Weser Ems at his inspection! In August 2018 several of his offspring were presented to Westfalen NA in two different states for breeding approval. Rock My World New Horizons (out of R Noble Rose APF) was awarded Premium status and Site Inspection mare in Virginia, and Rafinja of New Horizons and Rivendell of New Horizons (both out of Ricola DTA) were both awarded Premium status, with Rafinja winning site inspection Champion in Michigan with an outstanding score of 80 points! Two of Stellar’s foals were presented to Westfalen NA as well, with one being awarded Premium and Champion foal! The inspectors comments for Stellar’s offspring consistently compliment them on their elegant, pretty type and their powerful movement, with walks that have good rhythm and stride (Rafinja scored a 9 on walk), uphill trots with swing, elasticity, and active hind legs that reach well underneath, and balanced canters. Out of four breeding age mares by Stellar presented to Westfalen NA thus far for breeding approval, three have been awarded Premium status and two have been site inspection Champions! Additionally, Stellar has sired numerous foals that were awarded Gold Premium status at their RSPI inspections, and two with scores of 8.0 at the Westfalen inspection, with one earning an 8.5 on swing and elasticity and another awarded Premium status and Champion foal in 2018! And, Stellar’s first foal presented to Weser Ems was awarded Premium in 2018!

In July 2018 Stellar’s second offspring was presented to AHR for breeding approval, earning GOLD status with a score of 81 points! Rafinja of New Horizons (out of V.Pr.St. Ricola DTA) received 9s on type, head hindquarter and overall movement, and 8s on neck, hind legs and correctness of movement. Comments from the judges included Raffy’s strong hindquarters, impulsion, and ability to “sit” and collect, as well as forlegs that lift, suspend and reach, all traits which Stellar consistently passes on to his offspring! Only 2% of Haflingers achieve GOLD status, and we are so excited and proud that one of Stellar’s offspring has attained that very elusive goal! Out of only three mares by Stellar presented to AHR for inspections, Stellar has sired one GOLD mare and one high silver mare. Unfortunately, another Stellar offspring was not prepped correctly for inspections this year and did not score where she should have as a result. However, she came back a month later after her owner sent her to a knowledgeable trainer and she received Premium status at her Westfalen NA inspection! We are hoping that she gets a chance to be re-presented to AHR next year for a chance to earn the score she deserves.

In 2021 Standing Ovation New Horizons became the first small horse/pony stallion in North American to attend the North American Stallion Sport Test (the new format of the North American Stallion Performance Test). He was awarded Pony Champion with an overall score of 7.50, and a breakdown score of 8.0 for rideability and overall impression, 7.5 on walk and jumping rideability, and 7.0 for trot and canter.
